"In the exhibition "Maggie's Ghost," Gabriela Kobus plays with the home as an ambivalent structure. Upon entering the room, a threatening crunch can be heard underfoot. The secure ground suddenly feels fragile, no longer as stable as expected. The material is laminated glass, an industrial product used in many everyday items. Its promise of strength and stability is no longer fulfilled; it appears defenseless, exposed, and vulnerable.

This reinterpretation of properties is a fundamental interest in Gabriela Kobus’s work. What associations does the touch of a material evoke? What happens when the familiar suddenly becomes strange and uncomfortable?
